On Saturday October 26, 2019; @ 11:00 AM-2:00 PM Take a walk on the wild side for a good cause at the Santa Ana Zoo. Team Hope Walk supports the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. Huntington’s disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and there is no cure. Each child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the faulty gene that causes Huntington’s disease.
Today, there are approximately 30,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease. The symptoms of Huntington’s disease are described as having ALS, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s – simultaneously.
The theme of this year’s THW is “Enjoy Life, Be Positive, Hopeful, and Active!” There will be the Walk through the zoo, a Social Media Scavenger Hunt for all ages, as well as a trunk or treat adventure for the kids (costumes encouraged, but no weapons allowed)! There will also be a silent auction, opportunity drawings, displays (HD associated and other), Music, Live Band Karaoke, Food, Fun and more! The chatter from the jungle is that there will be some special guests from a galaxy not so near also in attendance!
