San Clemente may have two ballot measures in 2020
The San Clemente City Council has agreed to recommend to the City Council in 2020 that it put two measures on the General Municipal Election ballot.
City Clerk Joanne Baade says one measure would limit the consecutive years of service by Council members to a combined total of two four year terms, with the ability to again serve as member of the City Council after a lapse of no less than two years.
She says the other measure would transition the offices of City Treasurer and City Clerk from the current elected to appointive positions.
She says according to a survey, most Orange County cities have term limits and they appoint their city clerks and treasurers.
Baade says she will put on the City Council agenda the recommendations of the current City Council in the spring or summer of 2020.
