Former Los Angeles police chief named interim in Chicago
Chicago's mayor today named former Los Angeles police Chief Charlie Beck to serve as Chicago's interim police superintendent, a day after the city's top police officer announced he's retiring.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot says Beck was the perfect choice for the job leading the police force in the nation's third-largest city. She noted that he implemented many of the same reforms in Los Angeles that Chicago has undertaken in recent years and oversaw the Los Angeles Police Department as the violent crime rate fell in the nation's second-largest city.
Beck says he will help in the nationwide search for a permanent superintendent for Chicago and made it clear that he isn’t interested in the job.
