Southern California motorist accidentally shot by officer

Authorities say a Southern California police officer accidentally shot and wounded a motorist during traffic stop.

The Long Beach Police Department says the shooting occurred late Saturday night when officers working a reggae festival stopped a vehicle and found a loaded gun and open alcohol containers.

A police statement says additional officers arrived on scene and one officer unintentionally discharged a firearm, wounding the vehicle's driver in the right arm. The man was taken to a hospital with what was described as a non-life-threatening injury.

Two men, a woman and a male juvenile were also in the car.

The shooting will be investigated by Long Beach detectives and independently by the district attorney's office.
