Rancho Santa Margarita will cite street sweeper violators

In Rancho Santa Margarita, motorists who leave their vehicles parked on 14 designated streets with posted street sweeping signs, could eventually face citations.

Mayor Jerry Holloway says the City Council has approved the implementation of a parking citation program for vehicles left on streets when street sweeping is scheduled.

He says the Council felt it had to implement the program because motorists aren’t voluntarily removing their cars during the street sweeping times.

He says having clean streets is important especially with the recent rains to reduce the trash, sediment and debris that makes its way to the ocean.

Holloway says after there’s extensive public outreach for the program, there will be a 60 day grace period before citations are issued to violators.
