Ladera Ranch Civic Council learns to be fire safe

The Ladera Ranch Civic Council during its annual public safety meeting, heard an Orange County Fire Authority representative explain how fires miles from the community could impact residents’ homes.

Council Chair Stephanie Ramsey says when there’s a fire and it’s windy, there are environmental signals residents’ can see to determine if their home could be vulnerable to fire. Look for where leaves are swirling and landing on the home. That’s same spot where embers from fires can land. If there are cracks in the home, the embers could work their way through the structure and ignite the home.

She says the fire representative also said it’s important to have a plan in place on what to do in the event an evacuation order is called including what to grab from the home.

Information on how to be fire safe is available on the Orange County Fire Authority website at www.OCFA.org
