San Onofre Community Engagement Panel to Discuss Fuel Transfer Operations
The San Onofre Community Engagement Panel Thursday in Laguna Hills will discuss improvements made to the fuel transfer operations at the San Onofre nuclear plant since the Aug. 3 canister-downloading incident.
Fuel transfer operations at the plant have been on hold since August when a canister that was being downloaded became wedged near the top of the cavity enclosure container on the dry storage pad. The slings that support the canister during downloading had continued to be lowered while the canister remained wedged. The canister was eventually re-lifted and safely lowered to the bottom of enclosure container. At no point during the incident was there a risk to employee or public safety.
Thursday’s meeting begins at 5:30 in the evening at the Laguna Hills Community Center. Staffed information booths will be open at 4:30 in the afternoon.
