Aliso Viejo approves PARS program for temporary employees

The Aliso Viejo City Council has approved a change in pension policy for three part-time temporary employees who wish to work more than a thousand hours a year.

Mayor Ross Chun says the Council had approved the employees’ enrollment in the alternative retirement system PARS. It stands for Public Agency Retirement Services.

He says Aliso Viejo had a policy that had precluded a certain category of part-time temporary employees from working more than a thousand hours without being enrolled in the larger PERS pension program, which would have carried a liability to the city.

Chun says the three part-time temporary employees work in the city’s Recreation Department.
