Tax filing deadline approaching

The deadline to file tax returns is Monday.

Internal Revenue Service spokesman Raphael Tulino says many people rushing to get them done could miss out on deductions or credits, especially if they don’t have the necessary paperwork in front of them.

He says if you need more time to file, you may seek a six month extension. He points out, the extension provides more time to file, but not pay any taxes owed.

Tulino also recommends doing some tax planning with adjustments on withholdings if you do owe taxes or have too big of a refund.

He says the average refund is $2900.
