Los Angeles County uses technology to locate missing seniors

A new program in Los Angeles County uses electronic tracking bracelets to help find people with dementia or autism who go missing.

The bracelets are the cornerstone of LA Found, the program that also boosts coordination between law enforcement in the search for missing residents.

It was launched partly in response to the death of a 55-year-old woman with Alzheimer's who wandered away from her husband in 2016, Nancy Paulikas. Her remains were found months later.

Her husband, Kirk Moody, said he was frustrated by the lack of communication between county agencies as he searched for his wife.

Moody helped establish LA Found. Officials say in addition to distributing high-tech tracking bracelets, it has established procedures that help police, sheriffs, fire departments and hospitals coordinate during a search.
