Census 2020 hiring

In front of the U.S. 2020 Census Day on April 1, the U.S Census Bureau is hiring hundreds of people to work this summer as census takers.

Census Recruiting Coordinator Yolanda Lazcano says census takers visit homes to update address lists because many people have moved since the last census in 2010.

She says census taker jobs have flexible hours and there’s paid training. The hourly pay range in Southern California is $15 to $21, depending on the county. In Orange County, the pay is $19.50; in Los Angeles County, the pay is between $17 and $21 and in San Diego County, the pay is $20.50.

Lazcano says census takers must be at least 18 years old and must pass a background check. No experience is required.

Those interested must apply on-line at www.2020Census.gov/jobs
