California sues US over home health worker union dues
California Attorney General Xavier Becerra is trying to block a new rule from the Trump administration that would make it difficult for states to deduct labor union dues from the paychecks of home health care workers.
Becerra announced the lawsuit yesterday and was joined by the attorneys general of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Oregon and Washington. He says it's his 50th lawsuit against the Trump administration.
The new rule effects home health care workers, who care for people with disabilities. It would reverse an Obama-era policy that let states use Medicaid money to make payments to third parties on behalf of those workers.
Becerra says the move would make it more difficult for workers to collectively bargain for benefits with their employers.
