Orange County reaches settlement in homeless lawsuit

Orange County has reached a settlement in a lawsuit filed after officials moved to shut down a homeless encampment on a riverbed.

County supervisor Andrew Do says the agreement won unanimous approval from the Board of Supervisors.

Do says under the settlement, officials will provide outreach services to any homeless person on county property before issuing citations or making arrests.

However, the settlement doesn't apply to critical areas such as the airport or flood control channels, where law enforcement will be allowed to take immediate action.

A court must still approve the settlement. A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
