Irvine approves site for Southern CA Cemetery

The Irvine City Council has approved the site for a Southern California Veteran’s Cemetery.

City Senior Media Services Coordinator Melissa Haley says the Council agreed to follow the staff recommendation to designate up to a hundred acres of former El Toro Marine base land, commonly known as the golf course site, for the cemetery.

She says the Council has directed the City Manager with the assistance of the City Attorney to begin negotiations with the State of California on an agreement transfer to California at no cost.

According to a staff report, the golf course site would cost an estimated $58 million for the cemetery’s first phase.
