California measure pushing for more housing faces hurdles

Some California lawmakers are trying again to get more housing built in areas close to public transportation and jobs. A similar measure stalled last year. But yesterday, state Sen. Scott Wiener announced changes to the bill he hopes will help it become law this year. Local governments have opposed the measure for its potential to override local zoning laws. The legislation is aimed at attacking a housing crisis in California, which has some of the nation's highest home prices and an alarming growth in homelessness. The measure has bipartisan support, but some legislative leaders oppose it.
