San Clemente & Dana Point Councils may seek audit of Transportation Corridor Agency

The San Clemente City Council and the Dana Point City Council may pass resolutions tonight to support an audit of the Transportation Corridor Agency.

San Clemente Mayor Steve Swarz says the Los Angeles Times with supporting documents from the city had reported the TCA had potentially overspent and misused public funds.

He says in the last decade the TCA’s debt has grown from three billion dollars to nine billion dollars and it hasn’t built any roads. The money isn’t going to where taxpayers had expected it to go.

Swarz says Congressman Mike Levin has expressed his concern over TCA’s possible misuse of public funds and has called for a third party independent investigation.

At the same time, Dana Point is also concerned. Councilwoman Debra Lewis says her city council tonight may pass a resolution supporting San Clemente and the Congressman’s request.

She says the concern is that TCA is using the money on lobbyists and consultants and not roads

Both city councils meet at six tonight.
